A super rich and simple chocolate cake that bakes up extremely moist and is topped with a smooth chocolate ganache frosting — the best chocolate cake ever.

Melt the dark chocolate for the cake in a double boiler, then set it aside to cool.

Beat the butter and castor sugar together until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Pour in the melted chocolate, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda, and mix to combine.

Fold in the cake flour in three batches, alternating with the fresh milk.

Pour the batter into an 8-inch (20 cm) rectangular or round cake pan.

Bake in a preheated oven at 160°C (320°F) for about 50 minutes, until a cake tester comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely.

Make the ganache: add the dark chocolate, heavy whipping cream, and butter to a heatproof bowl set over simmering water.

Stir until the chocolate melts and the ganache becomes smooth, then let it cool slightly.

Spread the ganache evenly over the top of the cake with a spatula, reserving some for drizzling.

Cut the cake into slices and top each with strawberries, dusting with powdered sugar if desired.
